We've visited several times including as part of a trip on the East Lancs steam railway. It's a medium-sized museum but seems to have lost some of the vehicles that were previously on display. There are some interactive parts for little ones but it would benefit from much more. You can get on one of the classic buses and there's the opportunity to sit behind the wheel of a bus cab. Parking is free on site and there is cheap on-road parking a short walk away on the road if this is full (the car park was actually very quiet though on our recent Sunday visit). If you are looking for other transport based museums with kids, the British Commercial Vehicke museum in Leyland and the transport museum in Cheetham Hill are similar but bigger.

Fantastic place. I was right back in time wearing my gabardine coat, satchel on my back, one sock up one down, scuffed shoes. My mum, young and lovely as ever, hair do and outfit of the time running down the isle ready to rugby tackle me before I let go of the bus pole. Cherished memories.

Interesting place to spend half an hour but compared to the Transport museum in Cheetam Hill I felt like it was lacking in terms of the number of exhibits

A fabulous day out with Thomas & Friends where you make a stop at the Bury Transport Museum. If you pre book tickets for Thomas and friends, they provide entertainment for the children at the museum. We were able to sit on all the old vehicles, trucks, buses etc - a fabulous experience. They also provided entertainment such as entertainment from rusty and dusty the station sweepers, a magician, free face painting, free balloon animal making and free rides for the children -an absolute bonus. The East Lancs Railway is a few minute walk away. For those with prams and buggys, there are walkway signs to provide easy comfortable access. I recommend booking Thomas & friends railway experience for the fun family experience at The Bury Transport Musesum. Children are provided with stickers and colouring on the train before heading out to the museum. 10/10 experience and a great museum.

Kids had a great time. The old vehicles are really interesting to see and in excellent condition. Some of the interactive pieces have aged a bit and missing some pieces, also looking a bit tired. Staff were very friendly.

A lovely little Museum. Been done up well (Its way better than Manchester one!) You can spend a good hour here, especially good considering it's free to visit. Lots of stuff to see and do. And good fun for kids. It's worth combining a trip on the steam train next door... Or using this place to wait for the train.
